Online Micro Teaching – A Reflective Journey

Thalitha Muhlari reflects on her online micro-teaching experience with Grade 7 Mathematics on Classifying Polyhedra. The lesson was highly successful, with learners actively engaging in discussions and activities. Visual aids, such as slides showing cubes and pyramids, made abstract geometry concepts accessible, while interactive tools like Kahoot! kept learners motivated and provided instant feedback.

Challenges of online teaching, particularly maintaining engagement, were addressed through short, focused activities and structured pacing. The lesson achieved its objectives: learners could define polyhedra, name examples, and identify faces, edges, and vertices.

ICT tools played a central role:

  • Slideshows ensured clear explanations and visual clarity.

  • Kahoot! enhanced participation and served as formative assessment.

Key learnings included the importance of visual aids, active engagement, structured pacing, and formative assessment—principles applicable to both online and traditional classrooms. Peer feedback was overwhelmingly positive, validating the lesson design and strategies used.

Overall, the experience reinforced confidence in effective online teaching practices and highlighted strategies that will continue to shape future lessons.
